American Fortified Wine Weekend


The Sweet and Fortified Wine Association has declared Saturday and Sunday, February 9 & 10, 2019 as national

AMERICAN FORTIFIED WINE WEEKEND.


​​The purpose of this special wine day event is to celebrate one of the nation's most historic, celebrated, and versatile luxury beverages - American Fortified Wine.


Americans were producing fortified wines ​​before our independence from Great Britain. Angelica, America's proprietary fortified wine was first produced by southern California mission priests in the early 1800s and was the beverage of choice for California's gold rush miners and settlers


Today, over 1,000 American winemakers across the nation are producing world-class fortified wines including port-style, sherry-style, Madeira-style, and Vermouth. These uniquely crafted wines are truly American made from over 50 grape varieties grown in the American vineyards.
